La Gomera - January 2007

La Gomera is the second smallest of the Canary Islands. It lies about 30Km west of Tenerife, less than an hour by fast boat. Like Tenerife, La Gomera is a volcanic island, but that's where the similarity between it and its better known neighbour ends. Where Tenerife is bustling with tourists, La Gomera is quiet, relaxed, and hosts some of the most unspoilt ancient landscapes you could hope to visit.

Area: 378 square kilometres
Population: approx 20,000
Highest mountain: Alto de Garajonay (1,487 m)
Climate: Subtropical. Warm year round - mostly sunny in coastal areas, with frequent rain and fog inland.
